Online Edition 2

National Interdisciplinary Education Conference – Online Meetups, Seminars, and Webinars – Call for Papers for Edition 2 – Actionability of Interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning

The National Interdisciplinary Education (NIE) Conference is an annual event for educators, researchers, policy makers, and students who are active in inter- and transdisciplinary programmes at Dutch universities, university colleges, and universities of applied science. We want to stay in touch and grow as a community of inter- and transdisciplinarians, and to exchange best practices and ideas. We therefore organize approx. four online events annually, alongside an annual conference.

Inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration is currently being celebrated in academic and professional media as a response to the coronavirus pandemic and other complex and dynamic societal challenges. NIE online events facilitate exchange about our current, multifaceted situation, and its immediate effects on education. How may educational programmes, and scholars of interdisciplinary teaching and learning, productively respond to our situation and its many challenges?

The first edition of the NIE Meetups, Seminars, and Webinars took place in June 2020 and attracted 35 participants from a variety of countries. Both PhD candidates and postdocs, and educators and researchers presented their projects and best practices.

The theme of the second edition is the Actionability of Interdisciplinary Teaching and Learning. We welcome presentations on themes such as, but not limited to, a) Global issues and the move to inter- and transdisciplinarity; b) Black Lives Matter: Epistemic injustice and interdisciplinarity; c) Disability and online (interdisciplinary) teaching and learning; d) Teaching values that emphasize inclusion of multiple and diverse perspectives; e) Actionability as a new criterion for the evaluation of interdisciplinary studies.[1]

The second edition will take place on September 25, 2020 3-5pm. We invite you to submit a short (50-100 words) proposal and bio statement for a 10-minute presentation. Please send your proposal to I.vanderTuin@uu.nl and M.Keestra@uva.nl, with ‘Proposal for NIE Presentation’ in the subject line. The deadline for proposals is August 28, 2020. We will inform you asap afterwards if we could fit your presentation in the schedule of the second online NIE meetup. Further information about the online platform we will use, as well as other details, will be communicated in the second week of September.

Feel free to contact us, should you have questions or specific ideas for future sessions.
